In 1980 the first Women’s Studies institute of Western Germany (FRG) was established at the University of Bielefeld. Up to the year 2006, 35 institutes exist in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. All of them intend to establish visible and transdisciplinary Women’s and Gender Studies at their universities to support research in this wide area and to integrate this research into study curricula.
